Experimental documentary
“Siege”, which can be described as an experimental documentary, traces the ecological destruction along the Küçük Menderes River, centering on smell as an unseen form of environmental violence. Beyond a sensory experience, smell is treated as a viscous, invisible organism that permeates space and the body. Based on the artist’s personal testimony in Zeytinköy, the nar- rative invites the viewer to identify plant and fish species threatened with extinction, while also witnessing the stratified problems of soil and water transformed by agricultural chemicals and industrial waste. The odors concentrated at the point where the river flows into Pamucak Beach are considered indicators that recall past vitality while revealing present-day losses. In this context, “Siege” reveals the sensory anatomy of ecological disaster and invites the viewer to examine the material traces of the slow violence shaped through smell.
